Marker Case Study: Maunsell - Intranet Development

Business Challenge

Maunsell is part of AECOM - one of the largest infrastructure design groups in the world. As the world’s leading pure design company (Engineering News Record June 2003), California based AECOM employs more than 17,000 staff worldwide and generates more than US$ 1.8 billion in revenue. Maunsell provide integrated specialist expertise in virtually every aspect of design, project delivery and facilities management.

Maunsell have 27 offices in 10 countries, creating a major challenge for internal communication especially with the launch of a new brand. Research showed that the key information issue was finding contact details for other staff members and finding out what was happening elsewhere with the company.

What we did

The Marker team worked with Maunsell to identify the following key objectives for the project:

  • Assist in launching the new brand
  • Provide easy access to staff and office contact details
  • Put in place a flexible framework for future requirements
  • Communicate news and events

Core to achieving these objectives was the implementation of our Content Management Engine which allowed technical novices to create, amend and delete content as required. Stunning user centric design was incorporated to achieve early user adoption and staff engagement of the new brand values.

Outcomes

Internal Brand launch
The intranet was made available to the entire team world wide showcasing the new brand. The intranet provided a cost effective medium for launching the brand, reinforcing it in the minds of team members in multiple locations while ensuring consistency of message.
Streamlined content management
Our Content Management Engine was deployed to allow information to be published to the intranet by non-technical users. As the marketing team were able to publish brand guidelines and documents easily and quickly to staff worldwide the adoption of the brand guidelines was rapid.
Connected Internal Community
An Employee and Office phone book system was developed allowing everyone access to staff contact details, including a personal profile and photo. This became a key tool of the intranet and improved inter office communication.
